Welcome to Thinking Worlds
Philosophical dialogue in the form of The Community of Philosophical Enquiry (also known as P4C in the UK) has developed in the UK over the past 15 years through the work of SAPERE (www.sapere.net).
Philosophical dialogue and enquiry has the capacity to promote the development of good reasoning and formulation of good judgements in both young people and adults. Many are considering now that through advancing a culture of philosophical understanding with young people will help to advance global peace.
These things can work together to advance the kinds of dispositions and attitudes such as tolerance, respect of difference, essential in today’s world for the progress of global peace, justice and sustainable lifestyles. Those of us working in the field of Education for Intercultural Understanding and Education for Sustainable Development appreciate the need to develop effective ways of working with young people and communities, in different contexts, which can develop these dispositions and attitudes.
This site aims:
- To offer examples of good practice as well as examples of theory and research which can assist in developing philosophical dialogue and enquiry in education for intercultural understanding and education for sustainable development.
- To publicise and promote conferences and training in philosophical dialogue and enquiry especially in the area of intercultural understanding and education for sustainable development.
- Encourage the development and adaptation of materials for use in this work.
- Facilitate the training in Philosophical Dialogue and Enquiry of teachers and others involved in education for intercultural understanding and educational for sustainable development .
